Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Yes, it jumps around a lot but in mostly a good way. Every spot it jumps to has a character you care about or one that you hope gets what is coming to him. This is a well written, Clancy like spy novel done well. It is NOT a military novel. There are some military moments in the book but if you're looking for a truly military focused book, this isn't it.

But still with the read if you like modern spy stories based on impending war. I loved this book, very bad guys not so much military fighting, a lot of good regular people trying to do what they have to do. I would love to see more of what this author has written and the price was cheap.

Plot is fascinating and compelling, albeit complex because of the substantial number of sub-stories. I give author Ted Halstead credit for not only sustaining my interest to the last Kindle page, but also causing me check Amazon for any of his sequels.

Seal Team Six's action scene was rather terse. Suspense builds from the early chapters--initially more like shotgun scatter than a rifle bullet.

Brief glimpses of introduced characters tends to jar focus, yet the author succeeds in advancing disparate people together to tell an engaging story. I would prefer organizing with fewer chapters than using many ultra-short ones that almost continuously jump scenes.

No cliffhanger ending. Recommended recreational reading, especially suited for a free weekend. Certainly not quite up to Red Storm Rising, it was still an excellent well paced read with engaging characters and a delightfully overlapping plots and subplots. Frankly, it was pretty close to Clancey pacing. Characters were engaging and the weaving of the sub plots into the main plot was great. This is a well thought out and thoroughly researched account of overreaching foreign leaders and the consequences thereof.

It even includes planes, tanks and submarines to deal with those problems and discussions among their operators of the finer points of strategy. Sounds like Tom Clancy to me!

The only readers who might not enjoy this are those who like gratuitous gore - as in the original Clancy, there is none. If someone would proofread this book it would be perfect and get the commensurate 5 stars - there are no major mistakes, it's just that, given the quality of the writing, you would think the author was better than that. If he keeps writing them, we'll keep buying them. One person found this helpful. Different story, but reminiscent of Red October.

Fast paced, disturbingly possible. Even has bad guys that are good guys, but not stereotypical. Best to start on a Friday with no weekend plans. Much better than I imagined Well written, well researched and well fleshed out character wise No stretching of the imagination required, just a very good read Highly recommend.

The Saudi-Iranian War. Battlefield Russia: Book Five of the Red Storm Series. Battlefield China: With access to new evidence and secret materials from both here and abroad, including an archive of captured North Korean documents, Bruce Cumings reveals the war as it was actually fought.

Elegantly written and blisteringly honest, The Korean War is, like the war it illuminates, brief, devastating, and essential. For Americans, it was a discrete conflict lasting from to This work raises the question of what Korea can tell us about the outlook for Iraq and Afghanistan.
