Subjects Dogs -- Training. Dogs -- Behavior. If you want him to present a different way of obtaining these things, you have to try and show him an alternative and praise him for trying.

I bought this same book before we got our puppy. I read about half of it and put it down. I was discouraged with some of the things that have come up with having a new puppy, but I feel MUCH better now that I'm working with a trainer.

Everything seems so much more "real", and we can address specific things that I need help with. It's working wonderfully. I'd suggest getting into a puppy class, for sure!

I know what you mean about the "back talking" too. Raina likes to have the last word and make sure we know when she's not happy about something. She can get very demanding too. Of course, she's a puppy, so she doesn't have a lot of patience, but teaching her things has really helped.

One thing is, because she's so demanding of getting fed She was 10 weeks old when she learned it for her water Then 12 weeks for the food she is crazy for food.

Now, she just turned 14 weeks, and she will wait as long as it takes I've gone 30 sec before, just to see. She will not take her food until I tell her. Usually, I let her get it after about 5 seconds though. I'm not "mean". Just want her to know that she has to wait for me. And it really has helped a lot. If she's being demanding, I can tell her to wait Also, with the crate That really helps.

Also, for the first few days, I gave her a receiving blanket that I had rubbed on her littermates, and also a hot water bottle to make it more cozy. Hope that helps a little. Ximmy's Mom and I belong to a training club, and are assisting with puppy classes.

No choke or training collars. We use treats and praise to reward good behavior. Lots of helpful hints as to stopping unwanted behavior. Usually I just trade a good toy for a forbidden item. I have tried the squirt bottle in the past, and could never use any type of spray on that particular dog for the rest of his life.

For the crate, use a special treat that is only for when he goes in his crate. Ximmy gets dehydrated chicken strips for crate, and will basically go in, turn around and try to close her door just to get her "chicken" That's where chicken comes from you know.

A kong with peanut butter or some mild cheese with a bit of his kibble frozen inside can be given once the puppy has gotten good at going in his crate. I have to admit, I have never had a problem getting a puppy to go to it's crate when using this method.

You sound like you will do fine. Try to find the puppy class and keep on working with your little Man. The spine remains undamaged.
