As the pace of life accelerates to hyperspeed—with too much stuff, too many choices, and too little time—children feel the pressure. They can become anxious, have trouble with friends and school, or even be diagnosed with behavioral problems. The average child has more than toys.
Here are tips for reducing the amount of toys, books, and clutter—as well as the lights, sounds, and general sensory overload that crowd the space young imaginations need in order to grow.
Here are ways to ease daily tensions, create battle-free mealtimes and bedtimes, and tell if your child is overwhelmed. A manifesto for protecting the grace of childhood, Simplicity Parenting is an eloquent guide to bringing new rhythms to bear on the lifelong art of parenting.

I can see where we have been going down the wrong path and it's hard to put into words how much I appreciate someone being able to show us the right path.
For years we blindly accepted what we were told by media and even other parents and never realizing the damage we were doing to our family.
I just wish I had known about this book 10 years ago but am grateful I have it now. I had already decluttered our home so it was nice to have a head start. Without sounding hokey, this book has changed our lives. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase.
I have felt so many of these things, as a parent, but wasn't sure if I was just weird This book is so good and I truly wish I had read it when my first son was born I plan to buy it for my brother when their baby is born.
This is the "less is more" of parenting, as far as material items are concerned.
As a parent of grown sons and a new grandparent, I read this book with pleasure. The author presents some of the most important ideas for parents in a more contemporary context than books from my era that I still see from time to time.
Children do best with less stimulation than most have in our culture. They have the opportunity to discover the world, their own creativity, on their own terms. They develop more skill and intelligence when they are not overly distracted or have the need to develop defenses against sensory overload. The author does take the first section a bit too slowly, though, I think. I encourage readers who may put down the book at that point to choose later chapters as they appeal to them and keep reading and considering what he presents.
This book clicked on so many levels with me. I have been always in the mindframe of loving the simple things and I live very clutter free life but the book is well written and added new point of view for me.
The author is just great at writing it in an easy to read language, without making it sounds like he is giving you lessons. It is more of a combination of his way of thinking and the expirience he got from working with many parents.
I strongly reccomand this book and have gifted it to a few friends who are moms and study psychology.
