It integrates computation, visualization, and programming in an easy-to-use environment where problems and solutions are expressed in familiar mathematical notation.

It also includes low-level commands that allow you to fully customize the appearance of graphics as well as to build complete Graphical User Interfaces on your MATLAB applications. It is a subfield of signals and systems but focus particularly on images. DIP focuses on developing a computer system that is able to perform processing on an image. The input of that system is a digital image and the system process that image using efficient algorithms, and gives an image as an output.
The most common example is Adobe Photoshop. It is one of the widely used application for processing digital images.
It also focuses on the understanding of how the human vision works. How do human eye visualize so many things , and how do brain interpret those images? The tutorial also covers some of the important concepts of signals and systems such as Sampling , Quantization , Convolution , Frequency domain analysis e. But you must have some basic concepts of digital electronics. Canny operator is used for wide range of edge detection. It smooth the image by Gaussian filter to reduce noise, unwanted detail and texture.
Canny then compute gradient using gradient operators. Negative transformation means reversing the intensity levels of an image. This type of processing is used for enhancing white or gray detail embedded in dark region of an image.
Mostly used in medical application where minute informations are important.
